To use the word surrealist is tricky and perhaps deceptive. This area of Paul's work which for convenience is classed as surrealist constitutes word imagery translated into images arrived at from work in sketchbooks done spontaneously. As a person who works with the written word as a song writer he finds it intriguing to make images that appear to be telling a story which can only be understood by accepting the terms of the picture itself.
